Carlos Sainz isn’t expecting a car that suits him but remains confident

Carlos Sainz will begin his third season with the Scuderia, which is actually a key player within the Italian team with the feeling of progress and a first victory at the British GP in Silverstone.

The Spaniard can claim a greater influence in the decisions of his team, especially in the design of the car, but not according to the latter who believes that it is up to the drivers to adapt to the car and not the other way around.

« I have the impression that there is a tendency that people say whether the car is going in my direction or not, but that’s not true. I’m going to say it frankly, a Formula 1 car doesn’t go in my direction or towards the other driver. A Formula 1 car evolves to be faster. My job as a driver is to provide clues about the car’s weaknesses. »

« I provide this feedback, just like Charles. The team takes it and provides data, draws its conclusions, and hopes that the car will then be faster. I am always optimistic and hope that things will go faster this time, he added.

The Madrilenian also gives his feelings on his last season, notably the performance of his car which did not always meet his expectations. During the past year, I experienced obviously difficult moments. We had a car that required a certain style of driving, very specific. In those moments, I adjusted myself and succeeded a bit late for my taste, but I adapted. The car should have evolved and I felt very close to the limit last year and driving at a very high level. So I am convinced that I can pick up where I left off. However, I hope that the car will adapt a little better to my driving style and that I can start the season strong.

Sainz is optimistic for the upcoming season, especially for Bahrain

Furthermore, Carlos Sainz is quite confident about his preparation for the season and believes that he can perform even better than last year and be stronger on the track. “I worked hard during the winter to be well-prepared, and I am convinced that I can do better and become even better. So, I know that once I find my rhythm this year and feel comfortable in the car, I can perform very well. Therefore, I am very excited about what awaits me this season.”

The driver of the Scuderia is already focused on Bahrain, the first Grand Prix of the season where his team has planned a strategy to be the most efficient. « It is very clear in our minds, we want to surpass the milestones and what we are focused on. I think the pre-season has been easy for us so far. Now, it’s about executing a very specific plan that we have for Bahrain, and implementing it as best as possible ».
