Lewis Hamilton aware of the challenge that awaits him with the W14
The seven-time world champion expects a tough start to the season, particularly against the Red Bull giant.
As the season is about to start this weekend, Lewis Hamilton reveals that he quickly understood that his team won’t have an easy season in 2023. “I knew from the start when I drove the car where we stood in the hierarchy and the challenge we would face,” he said to the media at the Sakhir circuit.
Nevertheless, the British supporter his team by bringing a positive point by stating that porpoising is not present in the car. Not having any bouncing this year is a huge advantage. Last year, it was really difficult to try to understand what the problems were while experiencing bouncing. We no longer have this problem now, so we can solely focus on performance. I am motivated to see the attention and courage of all team members, so concentrated on our return to the top.
The British driver has confidence in his team’s abilities to perform throughout the season. We’re not where we want to be to start the season, but it’s still a team and a group of people who have won several championships.
For him, the difficulty will be standing up to Red Bull who dominated last season. They developed an incredible car last year, broke records, won almost everything. I don’t think they were pushing it to the end and they were still very advanced. I don’t think that necessarily changes at the beginning of the season, so they can probably be very relaxed. We hope that those who are just behind will continue to apply pressure. I think Ferrari has a decent package, as well as Aston Martin, and we are also chasing them.
He added a little note about Max Verstappen who, according to him, will be very focused. « He is a world champion, so I will not question his determination and focus. I think he will always be just as concentrated and it is our job to catch up with him. »
Hamilton is reflecting on his future.
Many rumors surround Lewis Hamilton’s future with a contract deadline in 2023, yet he remains reassuring. « There is no delay in our contract. I have always been very, very relaxed, and I don’t feel like I need to do things perfectly right away. » Lewis Hamilton recalls his special relationship with his team director, Toto Wolff, with a touch of humor: « I have an excellent relationship with Toto and Mercedes, and we support each other. I am really excited about the future and the work we are doing. We will get there unless something catastrophic happens… Maybe Toto and I will enter the ring. »
