Aston Martin in private testing at Silverstone
While the F1 teams have a three-week break between the Australian Grand Prix and the next Grand Prix in Baku, some are taking the opportunity to test new parts. This is the case for Aston Martin, who has been present at Silverstone since yesterday.
Felipe Drugovich, the reserve driver of Aston Martin, is present with the green team at the Silverstone circuit, the testing base of the team since the factory is located at the entrance of the circuit.
Private tests have been banned in Formula 1 for several years, with teams only allowed to use cars from the current or previous season. Teams are required to use cars that are at least 2 years old. This is also the case here, as Aston Martin is running the AMR21.
The purpose of the tests is to establish correlations between CFD studies and on-track analysis, especially on specific parts. Aerodynamics can indeed be transferred to a different race car under certain conditions.
Note that Drugovich is familiar with the behavior of the AMR23 as he took part in the winter tests in Bahrain when Lance Stroll was injured.
