De Vries is not surprised that rumors are circulating about his replacement at AlphaTauri
With a difficult start to the season, Nyck de Vries has opened up about his performances and stated that it is not surprising that his seat is being questioned.
The second Dutch driver on the grid has only competed in 6 Formula 1 Grand Prix races; however, his position within the AlphaTauri team is already under threat, with Helmut Marko giving him a “yellow card”. Alongside Logan Sargeant, he is the only driver who has not scored any points in the first 5 races. To make matters worse, he has been making a series of errors, such as missing his braking point at the first corner in Miami, and sending his car into the gravel trap during the race restart in Australia.
Mistakes that led Helmut Marko to put pressure on the Dutchman, who was dominated by his teammate. However, he takes responsibility for his actions: “I really think I made too many mistakes, I’m human, I acknowledge it.”
Nyck de Vries confident he can bounce back
« I also believe that the pace was strong at several moments, which encourages me and gives me confidence. I wasn’t able to execute at the end and I wasn’t able to put everything together, but I believe that the speed was there », said the rookie.
Similarly, I have made too many mistakes for it to result in anything, but that’s part of the learning process. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. We are all human, we make mistakes and we move forward.
“There will be nothing happening in the next three races,” confirmed Marko. “We spoke to De Vries and he shares our opinion: he needs to improve. The gap with his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who is doing an excellent job, is too significant.”
As a comparison to Yuki Tsunoda, who is in his 3rd season in F1, the Japanese driver has scored 2 points but is often in contact with the Top 10, unlike Nyck de Vries.
