Aston Martin has arrived in the principality with its first improvements

Currently second in the constructor championship standings behind Red Bull, Aston Martin has managed to defy expectations. The team went from midfield to podium contenders during the off-season. Aston Martin secured the services of Fernando Alonso as a replacement for Sebastian Vettel. The Silverstone-based team has nearly scored twice as many points as last year.

However, no one has managed to beat Red Bull since the start of the season, the Milton Keynes team has won all 5 Grand Prix, leaving the others to fight for the third step of the podium. This domination is due to the power of the DRS of the Austrian team. According to data, the traction of the AMR23 in slow corners is very good, a boon for Aston Martin as the average speed in Monaco is 160 km/h.

The team introduced on Friday the first set of improvements. Until now, the AMR23 had relied on the original car with different configurations.

The AMR23 arrives in Monaco with a different suspension setup, a brake cooling duct improving brake temperatures and downforce, essential when driving through the narrow streets of Monaco.

A request has been made to the FIA for a modification to the front suspension, an improvement aimed at optimizing the airflow over the car.

In a second step, the rear suspension has new fairings to increase the efficiency of the brake ducts while helping to better direct the airflow.

The Aston Martin should have impressive low-speed braking and traction capabilities. It is therefore expected to be in contention for victory this weekend.

Three modifications were made to improve the overall performance of the AMR23, while a rear wing with a high downforce configuration was installed in Monaco. Aston Martin was supposed to introduce the upgrades at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, before it was canceled due to the floods in the region.

But Aston Martin has divided its upgrades. The team director, Mike Krack, stated that they have divided the rollout of the improvements.

« We have kept the improvements from Imola, the ones that make sense for Monaco, on the car. There are one or two elements that we are bringing to Barcelona because it doesn’t make sense to bring them here. »

We will have some improvements here, there will be others in Barcelona. And even more later.
