McLaren hires Rob Marshall, Red Bull engineer, as their new technical director in 2024
The Formula 1 team McLaren has recruited Rob Marshall, technical director of the Red Bull racing team. This recruitment is part of the restructuring currently taking place at McLaren.
Rob Marshall will join McLaren as the Technical Director for Engineering and Design starting from January 1, 2024. Red Bull, however, specifies that he will leave his position at Red Bull with immediate effect.
This significant change in the technical direction of the team comes as Rob Marshall joined the Red Bull team in 2006.
From there, he supervised the work of the team on the RB5 during the regulation change in 2009, which ultimately allowed the team to win its first victories that very year and set Red Bull on the path to success for the following 4 years.
We would like to thank Rob for everything he has done for the team over the past 17 years. His work on car development allowed us to win 4 titles between 2010 and 2013, it was truly exceptional,” said Christian Horner.
« In the years that followed, he continued to be a key figure in the team and in 2016, he assumed a broader role, which led him to get involved in other projects throughout the Red Bull company. We will miss his influence, but we thank him once again for everything he has done and wish him the best in his new role at McLaren.
I am incredibly happy that Rob is joining McLaren. With over 25 years of experience in motorsport, Rob brings us his expertise and experience, bolstered by his tenure and track record at Red Bull Racing, says Andrea Stella, Team Principal at McLaren.
Stella declares that Marshall’s appointment to the technical team is important because the team is seeking to change its technical staff and, above all, to regularly get back to winning.
The appointment of Rob is one of the fundamental steps and a natural fit to help the team find their way back to victory.
