Yuki Tsunoda receives two penalty points on his Superlicence

Yuki Tsunoda wanted to go as far as possible with his tyres. Too far, it seems. While struggling and losing many positions, the AlphaTauri driver wanted to resist as much as possible.

But at the first corner of the Zandvoort circuit, the Japanese driver collided with George Russell. The Mercedes driver overtook him on the straight thanks to DRS and approached the first corner ahead of Tsunoda. But the latter apparently misjudged the gap between the two men.

The AlphaTauri understeered and made contact with the Mercedes number 63. Fortunately, the collision didn’t cause any damage. However, the race direction has decided to penalize him with two penalty points on his Superlicence. This brings his total to five points within a one-year period. He is still far from receiving a race suspension as it requires accumulating 12 points.

The commissioners clarified that by not respecting the International Sporting Code of the FIA, Section L, Chapter 4, Article 2d, driver Yuki Tsunoda committed an offence. The Japanese driver received a 5-second penalty added to his race time, in addition to penalty points. This penalty does not change his position, he finishes 15th in the Dutch GP.
