Six new stands are planned to be added at Zandvoort for next year
In order to increase its capacity, six new stands will be built by 2024 in the Zandvoort paddock. This is to potentially accommodate new teams.
The issue was raised live by Julien Fébreau, the commentator for Canal +. Some teams on the grid were cramped in the pit lane. Especially those at the back of the grid.
With the ten teams and the garages occupied by the FIA, there was no more space for anyone. This would become problematic if one or two new teams were to arrive in the coming years. Therefore, to solve the problem, the pit building will be expanded.
« We could have more space to allow for a little more safety and also for pit stops so that there is just more workspace, confirms Jan Lammers, sporting director of the Dutch Grand Prix.
Important work
« In this perspective, we will have an extension of the garages and pit lane next year, so towards Tarzan corner, the first corner, we will have a six-garage extension. »
But the problem doesn’t stop there. The tunnel, used by trucks to bring all the equipment, is located where the future garages will be built. It will therefore need to be shifted. « We will simply extend the tunnel a little, then there won’t be an “L” exit anymore, there will be a straight exit. »
Jan Lammers confirms that these improvements are only a small part of a big wave of modernization and enhancements to the Zandvoort circuit.
