Carlos Sainz is approaching a penalty on the starting grid
The Spanish driver received a fourth gearbox during the Italian Grand Prix. If he has to install a fifth one, he will be penalized.
The team has brought a large supply of new parts to Monza. After a first major wave of changes that already affected Ferrari, Mercedes, AlphaTauri, and Alpine, Carlos Sainz now has a new component on his SF-23.
The Spanish driver received a new gearbox before the start of the third free practice session. This is his fourth gearbox since the beginning of the season. This change will not result in a penalty for the Scuderia driver.
However, he no longer has a joker and will have to deal with this component until the end of the season. Indeed, the regulations require each driver to use only four gearboxes per season. If Ferrari were to install a fifth one, they would receive a five-place grid penalty.
