116 million over two years, the staggering salary that Lewis Hamilton is set to receive
According to our colleagues at the DailyMirror, the seven-time world champion would once again become the highest-paid driver on the grid, thanks to his recent signature at the bottom of the Mercedes contract.
These are drops of ink worth more than gold. After a soap opera spanning several weeks between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, both parties have reached a mutual agreement. On the eve of the Italian Grand Prix, the German team officially announced the extension of their star driver.
If the adventure between the British and the Silver Arrows was certain to continue, a few details had to be sorted out. Including the salary. And given the amount, we can no longer talk about a detail. According to the Daily Mirror, the German manufacturer would pay 100 million pounds sterling over the two-year extension.
The highest paid in the grid
If converted into euros, that would amount to approximately 116 million euros, or almost 60 million per year. With such an amount, the seven-time world champion would reclaim the title of the highest-paid driver on the grid, currently held by Max Verstappen. According to some experts, this would be 10 million more than this year.
Of course, these figures should be taken with a grain of salt since Mercedes has never officially disclosed the details of the contract signed with their driver.
