Lewis Hamilton very satisfied with his first day in Singapore

« The FP2 was undoubtedly the best FP2 session I’ve had this year. » Lewis Hamilton is categorical, Mercedes is on track for this Singapore Grand Prix. This Asian rendezvous is one of the British driver’s favorites. Here, the seven-time world champion is very successful, as evidenced by his pole position in 2018.

Five years after this feat, driver number 44, although driving a less competitive car than at the time, is still in the game. During the two free practice sessions, he achieved the fifth fastest time. As for our overall day, FP1 was solid. We were still a bit below what we wanted, but it wasn’t too bad, says the British driver.

A new pleasant route

« It was nice to end a Friday feeling so positive. I think we have a good foundation to build on for the rest of the weekend. This is the best session in terms of feeling on a Friday this year, so I hope we can continue to do good work for the rest of the weekend, as we usually tend to do, and keep improving. »

The Mercedes driver was also won over by the new layout of the circuit. This year, four corners in the final sector were removed due to construction work. In their place, a straight line emerged. The new track surface is superb and makes the circuit even more enjoyable to drive on. Furthermore, the removal of the four corners towards the end of the lap has absolutely perfected the circuit. “It’s incredible to drive,” asserts Lewis Hamilton.
