Leclerc penalized by 5 seconds, leaves points after the sprint race
Charles Leclerc, for not respecting the circuit limits, received a penalty of 5 seconds from the FIA. He loses the 2 points he had accrued and finishes 13th. Albon and Alonso take advantage.
The FIA, Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, informed the press that Charles Leclerc and Lance Stroll were penalized 5 seconds for exceeding the track limits too many times.
The FIA explains that Leclerc has violated article 33.3 of the FIA sporting regulations and is therefore given 5 seconds added to his race time. Arriving 19 seconds behind the leader, Piastri, he therefore finishes 13th and scores no points.
The statement explains that « on video evidence, the driver No. 16 left the track boundaries on 4 occasions without justifiable reasons. »
The FIA is notably in race, lenient, warning the driver several times before he gets penalized. Normally, it takes three exits to receive a penalty.
