With six points behind Sébastien Loeb before the last event of the season, Marcus Grönholm knows that it will be very difficult to secure a third world title. But Kimi Räikkönen’s example in F1 gives him hope.
« It will be difficult to win the title but I have a chance and I will try to seize the opportunity, promises Marcus. What happened in F1 is a good example. Two races before the end, Kimi Räikkönen was far behind to be champion and he succeeded. This is the way forward. Allowing Finland to win titles in F1 and WRC would be something special for my country. »
For the last race of his career – normally, the Ford driver is calm: “I have no pressure because I no longer have my destiny in my hands. I’m going to try to win and hope that Sébastien [Loeb] has problems. This is my 150th start. It would be nice to finish with a victory, but the goal remains the title. I would trade a victory for a podium and the title!”
Marcus Grönholm needs to score seven more points than Sébastien Loeb to win the title, but the victory, perhaps without the title, would still be a good way to conclude his 150th participation in the WRC Rally.
