After his 150th rally, Marcus Grönholm will take a well-deserved retirement. Even though he has already admitted interest in occasional participation in the future, the Finn will leave the world of the FIA World Rally Championship after the Wales Rally GB during which he can still win a third world title and a 31st victory.
Guy Fréquelin will also leave the World Rally Championship on Sunday night. The head of Citroën Sport, winner of the 1981 Rally Argentina and whose driving career ended in 1987, will be replaced by Olivier Quesnel next season.
Having lost the call for tenders from the International Automobile Federation to equip four-wheel drive cars starting in 2008 to Pirelli, BFGoodrich will vacate its spot after two seasons at the highest level.
Finally, the oil company OMV has decided to change its communication strategy. Heavily involved in rallying since 2004, OMV had launched the Peugeot Norway adventure in 2006 and Citroën Kronos this season. Manfred Stohl will have a hard time recovering from this reorientation and absence to finance himself in 2008.
