Timo Glock will be able to participate next week in the Jerez tests in Spain with Toyota. It will be the first test for the German with his new team, autosport.com revealed.
The German recently signed a contract as a race driver with the Japanese team for 2008. The only uncertainty was the fact that BMW-Sauber, his previous employer, could keep Glock until January 1st, as he remains under contract with BMW until the end of the year.
But the discussions between Toyota and BMW resulted in an agreement since Glock is allowed to drive at Jerez for Toyota, but he must wear a helmet and specific suits. That is, no sponsor or brand that Toyota employs. Finally, he is not allowed to take part in public relations or marketing conversations for Toyota’s activities.
Glock is to drive all four days of the test, with the second car running for two days with Jarno Trulli and two days with Kamui Kobayashi, the new test driver.
In an interview for Autosprint magazine this week, Glock said his goal for 2008 is quite simply to regularly score points.
« I don’t know what I’ll be able to do during the championship. It also depends on the car’s performance and the new regulations. There will be the issue of tire management, so a lot of variables, » he said.
« I know that I want to regularly score points. That would already be a good result for a first season, » concluded the German.
