Timo Glock has officially become the new No. 2 driver for Toyota F1 and will therefore compete in the 2008 season alongside Jarno Trulli.
The young German, present and winner of the GP2 series this season, has earned a spot as a main driver, with Toyota seeing a lot of potential in this future Rosberg or Hamilton. Nevertheless, the German believes that his new team also has enormous potential for 2008.
With only 13 points scored in 2007 and a 6th place in the World Constructors’ Championship, Toyota was disappointing, perhaps aided by a more than disappointing Ralf Schumacher. But for many, the Japanese team will make a comeback next year and the goals are present.
« I made this decision because, to me, Toyota has enormous potential, and it is a real honor to compete with one of the best F1 teams, » confirmed Glock.
Toyota obviously has the means to succeed and although it’s quite complicated for me to define the causes of the failures in the last two seasons, I think we are going to do it. We will be able to fight at 100% and we will have a 100% chance of success.
I’m really happy and proud to join this team, I repeat, it has potential, and together, it will help me progress well!
« It’s still a young team compared to many, it has the means to do it and I think we’re going to succeed… » concluded the 23-year-old German.
A few days ago, Glock terminated the contract that tied him with BMW as a test driver and will therefore be able to test the future Toyota TF108 next week in Jerez.
