Reliability: The Major Concern of Ferrari

Ferrari’s boss, Stefano Domenicali, is convinced that the F60 is fast enough to be at the front of the upcoming Melbourne Grand Prix, but admitted that reliability remains the main concern.

When looking at the recent tests in Barcelona, the Scuderia has more reliability issues than its competitors. Domenicali acknowledged that solving these was the team’s priority.

« In the past few days, I was in Barcelona to follow the final moments of the pre-season tests. I saw a focused and determined team, » he explained.

« We will be satisfied with our car as long as the performance is good. It is clear that we still have work to do and need to focus on reliability. »

« Last year, we saw the importance of reliability and resolution of the smallest details. We must work in this direction. »

Domenicali refused to predict at the moment where Ferrari stood in relation to its competitors, but he agreed with Felipe Massa’s comments about the very strong form of Brawn GP, the new F1 team.

« I am not trying to avoid an answer, but it is extremely difficult to say anything about each person’s levels on track, » the Italian continued.

Until early March, there was a great balance between the teams, and then Brawn GP arrived. Their performance is very surprising. This team must be closely monitored.

We believe that Ferrari is one of the most competitive teams, but there are still many unknowns to consider. We must wait for Melbourne to get answers.

Finally, Domenicali wanted to share his perspective on the interpretation of the 2009 regulations regarding the diffusers, an issue on which Flavio Briatore spoke earlier this week.

We correctly apply the regulations by adhering to the letter to the FIA’s directives.

« It is possible that other people have a different approach. The FIA should dispel any doubts quickly, » concluded the Ferrari team principal.
