The Renault drivers were in Dubai on Saturday for the official launch of the first
Roadshow of the year at a press conference in Downtown Durj Dubai.
At the foot of the world’s tallest skyscraper, Nelson Piquet was joined by Romain Grosjean, the team’s third driver, and Roadshow driver Adam Khan to showcase the extraordinary events of this weekend in Dubai…
Nelson Piquet, are you happy to be in Dubai?
« This is actually my second visit, and I’m loving this city more and more. It’s probably the largest Roadshow event we’ve conducted so far. Dubai is an exceptional place with its many hotels and towers all around us. This will give the opportunity for a maximum number of people to come see the demonstrations. »
Pilot on a platform located on a lagoon is a first for the Roadshow and you will do it at night tomorrow…
« Absolutely. I hope I don’t fall into the lagoon because I just dried off after the race in the rain in Malaysia! The night atmosphere will be superb and will make the event even more impressive, a bit like last year’s night race in Singapore. »
Romain, you gave a superb performance in the desert, how was it?
« Renault had a very good idea. Driving the single-seater car in the middle of the desert was truly exceptional. Generally, we drive the car through the city. Here in Dubai, we have the opportunity to drive the car in unusual places. Our visit will be all the more memorable for everyone. »
Adam, you made your first demonstration in the Formula 1 car. Did you enjoy your first Roadshow experience here in Dubai?
« Absolutely, yes. It’s a place that lends itself so well to this kind of event: the weather is beautiful, the scenery is spectacular, and there are many very enthusiastic fans who have come to see the show. I hope these fans will go home delighted after today’s festivities when we do the demonstrations on the lagoon platform. »
How do you make donuts with an F1 car?
« In fact, it’s quite easy because the car is so powerful. You put the car in first gear, hit the gas, and then lift your foot off the clutch. The fans are always thrilled; it’s not something you see often, not even during a Grand Prix. I’ll make sure to make as much noise as possible when I’m in the car tomorrow. »
