The FIA asked the BBC, which broadcasts the Grand Prix, for copies of the radio conversations of the McLaren team and its team principal Martin Whitmarsh from the Australian Grand Prix.
The organization governing the sport is continuing its investigation into the controversy surrounding the McLaren team’s lie. The BBC television network has been asked to provide Whitmarsh’s comments from Melbourne. These could bring new insights into what happened behind the safety car in the closing stages of the race.
Although Whitmarsh clearly stated at the Malaysian Grand Prix that he knew nothing about Lewis Hamilton and his former sporting director Dave Ryan, the audio conversations will provide certainty.
The FIA wants the BBC to provide any evidence it believes would be useful to its investigation.
McLaren will have to face a World Motor Sport Council hearing later in the month to answer accusations of lying. Hamilton was forced to provide a false statement.
