Friday: Red Bull breaks into the top 5

First day of testing for the weekend and first victories for Red Bull as the team’s two drivers rank among the top positions. Mark Webber places ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel.

It should be noted that the Austrian team is not equipped with a double diffuser and, like seven other teams, has to redesign the aerodynamic element at the rear of the single-seater. Adrian Newey is therefore returning to the design phase to make Red Bull even better than it is currently.

Mark Webber – 5th and 4th:

« Overall, it was a very good day. Unfortunately, during the second session, we had a problem with the rear suspension. It took too long to repair, so we had to stop earlier than planned. We gained some useful information about the car. The main task for all teams and drivers is to manage the different tire compounds. As you can see, graining is the main issue, but fortunately, I have my helmet and visor, which protects my eyes from the rubber! »

Sebastian Vettel – 12th and 5th:

« We made important tire comparisons today with Sunday’s perspective in mind. It will be the challenge of the weekend. The guys did a good job, the car was perfect, which is always an advantage on a Friday. We had time to dry out since Malaysia. We had perfect conditions today and we’ll see how they evolve tomorrow. »
