Friday: McLaren benefits from a Miracle diffuser!

McLaren-Mercedes could be the surprise team of the weekend. The team has worked hard to obtain a diffuser this weekend, and it’s benefiting them in terms of performance. Hamilton and Kovalainen were fast this morning and reliable in the afternoon.

The rest of the weekend looks optimistic for the gray team, but the competition is also expected to improve as of tomorrow. The goal will be the big points.

Heikki Kovalainen – 4th and 9th:

« I am very impressed by the performance of the single-seater today. The car has improved even if there are still some balance issues. We will have even better balance tomorrow, so hopes are high. »

Lewis Hamilton – 1st and 13th:

« The car is immediately more performant here. The balance is better, and the grip too, thanks to the aerodynamic downforce. We have certainly made a step forward here. It’s a good base for the rest of the weekend.

« Regarding the tires, everything is quite consistent and we will be able to prevent the drop in performance of the soft tires. Therefore, work remains to be done on the MP4/24 in terms of top speed and balance in fast corners. »

Martin Whitmarsh – Director

« The team, on track or in the pits, did a remarkable job. We have a new package and it seems to work quite well. We still need to work on the car’s balance, and then the performance will be much better. Otherwise, the day remained ordinary. »
