The standings after the Chinese GP

Third race of the 2009 season and new surprises emerge as Red Bull is the winning team of the weekend. They achieve the first pole position in their history thanks to Sebastian Vettel and then secure a one-two finish in the race. The victory goes to the German, followed by his teammate Mark Webber. Brawn GP is never far behind, with Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello scoring 6 and 5 points. McLaren finally returns to the points as Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton finish 5th and 6th (earning 4 and 3 points). Timo Glock for Toyota and Sébastien Buemi for Toro Rosso also score points. Ferrari scores no points.

In the driver standings, the Brawn drivers are still in the lead with Button ahead of Barrichello with 21 and 15 points respectively. Further back, we have Vettel (+9 places) and Glock (+1 place) on the third step of the podium with 10 points. They are closely followed by Webber (+4 places) with 9.5 points and Jarno Trulli with 8.5 points, who loses 3 places.

In 7th place with 4 points, there are four drivers: Hamilton (+3 places), Alonso (-2 places), Kovalainen who enters the points, and Heidfeld (-2 places). Rosberg drops to 11th place with 3.5 points while Buemi is just behind with 3 points. The Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais brings up the rear in 13th position.

In the constructors’ standings, Brawn GP takes off even more with 36 points after 3 races while Red Bull (+5 places) is now 2nd with 19.5 points, closely followed by Toyota (-1 place) with 18.5 points. McLaren (+4 places) is climbing the ranks little by little and is now in 4th place with 8 points.

Following are the Renault teams (-2 places), BMW-Sauber (-2 places), and Toro Rosso (+1 place) with 4 points each. Williams is now the 8th team on the grid while Ferrari and Force India remain at the bottom.
