At this pace, the Brawn GP team will be crowned world constructors’ champion very quickly since for the third time in as many races, both drivers are in the points. Admittedly, this time it’s not a victory but still a podium for Jenson Button with a 3rd place finish.
It is necessary to add Rubens Barrichello’s fourth position for Brawn GP to soar in the standings. It’s simple, the Brackley team has almost double the points of the second team in the standings (Red Bull). Ross Brawn now hopes for a good performance in dry conditions and why not in a week in Bahrain!
Jenson Button – 3rd:
A very difficult race today and I am very happy that our two cars crossed the checkered flag after these 56 laps. Moreover, we scored big points. The conditions were quite crazy with all that water on the track.
« The last lap in particular, I felt like I was in the middle of a lake and you just couldn’t brake in the corners. I was fighting with the car and the tires to avoid aquaplaning. It was difficult to get the tires up to high enough temperatures to make them work properly. I had a great battle with Mark Webber over a few laps, but I couldn’t stay ahead. However, finishing today’s race is an achievement in itself and being on the podium is fantastic. We couldn’t beat Red Bull and congratulations to Sebastian [Vettel] and Mark [Webber] for these very good results. »
Rubens Barrichello – 4th:
« It was a difficult race with terrible conditions today. My brakes were sensitive, which made it even harder to keep the car on track. Fortunately, the problem was solved after my first stop, and I then had a good pace. I bring back quite a few points in difficult conditions, so we can be happy. »
Ross Brawn – Director
Another spectacular race today that makes this 2009 season quite exciting. Jenson [Button] and Rubens [Barrichello] did an excellent job placing the cars in the points combined with a solid performance from the team throughout the weekend. In the end, we scored 11 points. We had a good strategy with our two drivers, with a fairly long first stint that allowed us to close the gap to the leaders.
« Our goal is now Bahrain next weekend for what will hopefully be a dry race. »
