Ferrari will attempt to restore its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) throughout the weekend in Bahrain. Due to its reliability issues, the Italian team had decided not to use it on the F60 cars in China.
Kimi Räikkönen does not seem to have suffered from this absence, in any case, he did not complain unlike Felipe Massa who stated in Shanghai that not using the KERS is certainly a handicap.
« This is another area where we need to work, to reuse it as soon as possible. »
Improvements on the car will arrive next month with the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, but Ferrari’s team principal, Stefano Domenicali, will try to bring the KERS back into the race as soon as possible, either in Bahrain this weekend.
« The car will be the same as in China even though we will be interested again in the management of the SREC. »
From seven single-seaters equipped with the device in Australia and Malaysia, only three cars had it in China.
Renault has for now removed its KERS on the orders of Flavio Briatore: « We will analyze the data from the first races. BMW was in favor of KERS and it now seems to reject it, » said the Italian. « I believe this innovation will soon be considered a spectacular waste of money. »
As for Ross Brawn, he believes that KERS (English name) will be a crucial element in the second half of the season.
