For this final early-season race outside Europe, it is hard to imagine Brawn GP not delivering another strong performance at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. Now that their diffusers have been officially legalized, the seven other teams without them are hard at work on the issue. No diffuser as advanced is expected to be ready before the Spanish GP. Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello will therefore race confidently on Sunday.
There may not be a victory in the end, but significant points will be scored, giving Brawn GP and its drivers an even clearer advantage in the championships.
Jenson Button – Racing Driver
Bahrain is still one of my favorite circuits on the calendar. I love the country, the track is very fast, certain sections suit my driving style and will allow me to push the car to its limits. It’s a good circuit for overtaking, especially at turn 1 after the long straight where you brake hard at over 300 km/h, shifting from seventh to first gear.
« Drivers tend to brake surprisingly early, so if you’re brave, you can brake later to attempt an overtake. You have to trust in the performance of the car. »
Rubens Barrichello – Racing Driver
« Bahrain is not a unique track, but it is interesting from a driver’s point of view. From a technical perspective, braking and traction are essential, and you need good straight-line speed. I hope the strength of our Mercedes-Benz engine will have a real advantage. »
« The weekend can be very windy, especially in the afternoon bringing sand onto the track. This parameter can be an additional challenge in qualifying as everyone tries to follow the ideal trajectory for the final stint. »
The last two race weekends have been very eventful with weather conditions affecting the results in Malaysia and China. Hopefully, there will be a dry race here in Bahrain.
Ross Brawn – Team Principal:
« With four Grand Prix races in just five weeks, it was an intense and demanding start to the season for the Brawn GP team. Australia, Malaysia, and China were fantastic races. »
« This was particularly the case in China last weekend where the team and the drivers did an excellent job. Even if we were not on track for the victory, we consolidated our position in the championship. »
