Change in the management of the Abu Dhabi circuit

The organizers of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have somewhat changed the organization of their management structure in view of the first Grand Prix which will take place on November 1st and will close the 2009 season. As a reminder, the manager is Philippe Gurdjian, but Richard Cregan becomes the project chief executive. He left Toyota last year to join the management of the new circuit.

« Like any organization, we go through several processes and today, it’s a simple evolution of the company, » stated Cregan to the magazine Autosport, after joining the project from the beginning with the goal of helping Gurdjian.

« At this stage, Philippe is more focused on building the circuit on time. He asks me for advice but he is more concentrated on the Grand Prix. »

The ‘Yas Marina Circuit’ is still under construction and features unique characteristics like a hotel complex. « As far as we are concerned, the race will be at 3:00 PM, as scheduled in the calendar, » continued Cregan, confirming that the race will not be at dusk or at night.

« We need to walk before we can run! There are many possibilities in the long term, but we need to be realistic for now. We have scheduled the race time with FOM (Formula One Management) for 3:00 PM. »
