The FIA announced this Thursday that the weight of Formula 1 cars will be increased starting from the 2010 season under the new technical regulations.
The body declared that the minimum weight for cars next season will be 620 kg, whereas currently it is 605 kg.
This change aims to prevent heavier drivers from being at a disadvantage due to the introduction of the KERS, such as the BMW Sauber driver, Robert Kubica, one of the tallest in the F1 field.
The Polish driver used the KERS only once in four races because the increase in weight did not allow him to play with the ballast and thus improve the balance of his car.
But the technical regulations published by the FIA are designed to solve this kind of problem since each car will be able to accommodate an additional 15 kg.
