Friday: Toyota tests again and again

As with BMW, the Toyota team experienced two completely different sessions on the timing charts. Very well placed this morning with Trulli in 2nd and Glock in 8th, the two drivers couldn’t do anything this afternoon, due to the tires…

The difference is therefore significant between the soft and hard tires and will be the key element in the race strategy. Timo Glock is not yet comfortable at the wheel of his TF109 and hopes to identify the negative aspects of his car by tomorrow.

Jarno Trulli – 2nd and 19th:

« We spent our Friday testing both types of tires and the setup to be used tomorrow. We also worked on the strategy to implement for the tires during the race. The test results are striking, but it’s clear that we need to analyze the data before making any decisions. The car isn’t perfect and needs to be balanced a bit better. However, I think there’s room for changes, so I’m not too worried. We need to wait and see what will happen tomorrow morning. »

Timo Glock – 8th and 18th:

« It wasn’t a very good day for me today. I was struggling a bit with the behavior of the tires in both practice sessions. It’s really difficult to understand what the problem was. We have to analyze today’s results and work hard to improve for the qualifying. I’m not satisfied with the way things went today, but we won’t give up, we’ll do our best to find a solution. »

Dieter Gass – Chief Race and Test Engineer

« Even though I’m not too worried about the schedule, we have an update for this weekend and without testing, we had to evaluate it today. We did a lot of laps making several comparisons to get more information. »

« Of course, you don’t have as much time to focus on these parts as you can during winter testing. We did a lot of tests, mainly on aerodynamics, brakes, and tires. We obtained some interesting results that we will analyze tonight and try to find the best compromise for tomorrow. »
