After the first four races around the world, Brawn GP and F1 are back in Europe. The BGP-001 has had a number of improvements here and for the entire European campaign. On a warm spring day, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello completed 45 laps each.
During the first session, Button set the fastest time, while the afternoon session was more focused and mainly devoted to reliability and long runs. Brawn GP finished the day in fourth and sixth place. The strength of ‘Terminator Salvation,’ the promotional film on the bodywork, is expected for the rest of the weekend: Button is not satisfied.
Jenson Button – 1st and 6th:
« We have a new aero package and the balance was not perfect. We struggled mainly with grip but we think we have found the reason. Barrichello for his part gathered a lot of data and we will spend the night analyzing everything to have an even more positive day tomorrow.
Rubens Barrichello – 10th and 4th:
« We had a good first day by focusing on evaluating the new aerodynamic package. I ran with it this morning and my initial impressions are positive. The car was pleasant and balanced (unlike Jenson). As for the rest, it was rather usual, so we have a lot of data and a lot of work! »
Ross Brawn – Director:
« It’s always good to return to Europe after a season start focused on Asia, especially following the success of our first four races. Throughout this period, we have worked hard on the first update of the single-seater and we finally have it this weekend on the BGP 001. The feedback is generally positive and it’s encouraging. »
The day was mixed. Button is not satisfied, unlike Barrichello. We have all night to satisfy both drivers.
