The future of Hockenheim as a Grand Prix organizer will be clearer after a meeting taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, May 20.
The financial representatives of the circuit and State Prime Minister Günther Oettinger will meet to assess the situation and find a solution to the circuit’s growing losses.
Oettinger is also seeking to meet with F1 executive chief Bernie Ecclestone, reports news agency SID.
Without a solution, Hockenheim asserts that a return to the calendar in 2010 will be impossible in light of the millions of Euros in losses.
The circuit leader, Karl Josef Schmidt, describes Wednesday’s meeting as crucial. He doesn’t want to be too optimistic but: “If a Prime Minister sits down to talk, then it’s not just for fun!”
He added: « Ecclestone knows that the Prime Minister wants to talk to him. »
No timeframe for a solution has been set, but Schmidt believes that Hockenheim needs roughly a full year to prepare for the 2010 race.
