A few races ago, Toyota was the second strongest team on the grid for this 2009 season. But since Barcelona two weeks ago, nothing has been going right for the Japanese team. After a disastrous Spanish weekend, the one in Monaco doesn’t look much better.
As in qualifying, drivers Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock were unable to show any semblance of competitiveness. Tomorrow they will start 19th and 20th respectively, the last two positions on the grid! The Italian lodged a complaint with the race stewards for a possible obstruction by Fernando Alonso in Q1, but it won’t change Trulli’s position…
Jarno Trulli – 20th and 19th:
« It’s extremely disappointing, especially because I was having a good lap at the end of Q1 before I got blocked by other cars in the last two corners. It would have been my fastest lap, allowing me to make it to Q2. So, I’m angry about that, but ultimately, we’re just not performing this weekend. »
Timo Glock – 17th and 20th:
« We need to analyze our data and see where the problems are. We struggled from the first lap this weekend. The car does nothing on this track. I drove as fast as possible, but it wasn’t enough. It’s obvious that I’ll do my best in the race tomorrow, but starting from this position on the grid, we don’t have much hope. »
Pascal Vasselon – Deputy General Manager of Chassis:
« It’s a very difficult weekend, obviously. There is clearly something wrong with our cars, we need to solve this problem. The race will be tough, especially from the starting positions, but we will keep fighting. »
