Ferrari had been waiting for this moment for a long time! Both of its cars in the top 5 with Kimi Räikkönen in 2nd position and Felipe Massa in 5th. The Finn was very close to securing a pole position hoped for so long. But Button was better.
However, it is important to keep in mind that the Monaco circuit is an atypical track and that Scuderia could very well revert to its old ways in Turkey. A situation to watch closely, therefore.
Kimi Räikkönen – 6th and 2nd:
The second place is a good result, but I am disappointed to miss the pole by so little. Here, there is a bigger difference between first and second place. The car has improved in terms of performance level. Today, we felt more and more comfortable as the track’s grip level gradually improved. I had some difficulties on the first run in Q1, but things improved afterward. Tomorrow, the race will be long and difficult. The start will be very important on this short straight. KERS will certainly be a help, but not as much as on other circuits. It’s good to be back in the fight for the top spots and I will give my best to try to win the victory because that’s the only thing that matters.
Felipe Massa – 5th and 5th:
« We are capable of fighting for the top spots. We had a chance to break into the top three, but I never managed to achieve a perfect lap partly because of the traffic. Fifth place is still a good position to start the race. I am confident about the future. It will be a long race, but the F60 is competitive. Step by step, we are getting back to where we are used to being. »
Stefano Domenicali – Team Principal:
« It’s a good result that confirms the team is functioning well. There is obviously a bit of regret for Kimi [Räikkönen] narrowly missing out on pole, and the fact that Felipe [Massa] only managed one clean lap in Q3, which prevented him from achieving a better position on the grid. Overall, we can be reasonably satisfied: we are in a good position for tomorrow’s race, and we have confirmed that progress is being made step by step. There is still a long way to go, but we are moving in the right direction. »
