The expansion of the contract between Brawn and Virgin announced in Spain never materialized, but Nick Fry, the CEO, points out that the team’s financial health in 2009 is not in question.
« There is no question that this contract will be a financial aid for this year, » the Briton declared to the English TV channel ITV.
« Even if we gained nothing at all from this sponsorship, we would be able to continue the season, » added Fry.
Everyone was therefore expecting an expansion of the contract between Brawn and Virgin two weeks ago in Barcelona.
Virgin began its financial support with Brawn in Australia at the rate of $250,000 (around €180,000) per race. However, last weekend in Monaco, rumors suggested that Sir Richard Branson had been quite reluctant to fully dominate the Brackley team.
However, Fry is not concerned about the situation because he knows there are plenty of other companies interested in supporting the team.
« What is good about our situation is that we don’t need to take the first solution that comes our way. »
