The survival of the Hungarian Grand Prix beyond 2012 is in doubt according to some articles from the small Central European country.
The government is questioning its commitment to the event, despite the contract extension for hosting a Grand Prix during the period 2012-2016.
The newspaper claims that financial officials and the relevant ministries within the government no longer wish to support the race due to a lack of funds and the recent weakening of the Hungarian currency, the Forint.
Any cancellation of a race before 2012 is not possible because all promotional expenses have already been accounted for in the organization of the events.
The Hungaroring, located in Mogyoród about a thirty-minute drive from the historic center of Budapest, hosted its first Grand Prix in 1986. It was the first time that Formula 1 ventured beyond the Iron Curtain.
