The entry of the Lotus team into the 2010 Formula 1 championship was indeed formulated in consultation with the Lotus Group. The possible new F1 team rejects rumors of legal action from the legendary sports car brand.
A press release published on Wednesday evening suggested that the Lotus Group and its subsidiary Lotus Cars Limited had no connection with the F1 entry attempt and that they will do everything possible to protect its name, reputation, and brand image. These words have been interpreted as a veiled threat of legal action.
However, the Lotus Group does not plan to completely nullify the future F1 team’s plans. The company has actually been fully informed by Team Lotus of its efforts to participate in Formula 1 Grand Prix.
A source close to the new Team Lotus stated: « We have informed Lotus of our intentions. We are well aware of the need to protect its brand image. We look forward to having closer ties with them in the future. »
