The Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) does not wish to be drawn into a war of words with the FIA.
The governing body today issued a statement accusing FOTA members of preventing an agreement that would end the current negotiations on cost reductions.
« There is clearly an element within FOTA that is determined to prevent any agreement, regardless of the damage it would cause to the sport, » claimed the FIA.
With the FIA promising to publish the details of its discussion with FOTA to support its position, and the teams promising to announce why the future FIA rules are bad for the sport, tensions between the two parties appear to be growing.
However, a spokesperson for the FOTA specified that there was no intention to respond immediately to the FIA’s latest request.
« The FOTA, while reserving its position on specific issues, does not intend to comment on the FIA’s press release published on June 15 in order not to be involved in controversies or confusions that will not contribute to creating a positive environment for ongoing contacts. »
