A special helmet to celebrate Hamilton’s return home

Lewis Hamilton will have a special helmet to mark his return to Silverstone, just one year after winning the British Grand Prix, a home race for the Englishman.

Last July, the potential world champion left all competition behind on a wet track. As proof, he finished more than a minute ahead of Nick Heidfeld, who came second in the race.

This weekend, the young 24-year-old Briton does not have a competitive McLaren to hope for victory, but this special helmet is aimed at his fans who have supported him throughout the 2008 season. A kind of thank you for their support last year.

The design has been modified on the top of the helmet, but the national flag, the Union Jack or union flag, is present more at the bottom.

Apart from the dazzling diamond helmet in Monaco, this is the first time Hamilton has changed his traditional yellow helmet since his debut in 2007.

« I wanted to choose a specific helmet design that not only shows that I am a British athlete, but more importantly, I wanted it to reflect all the support I receive from fans at Silverstone, » he stated.

Hamilton is also concerned because if the plans for Donington Park, host of the 2010 British Grand Prix, turn out to be a failure, this Sunday could indeed be the last Formula 1 race in the country.

« Formula 1 would not be the same without the British Grand Prix. It is out of the question to lose it. »
