The Toyota team started their race weekend perfectly with two serious and studious practice sessions. As every Friday, the focus was on evaluating the tires, soft and hard this weekend, as well as finding the best setup. Both for Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock, no problems were detected.
The two drivers are therefore gaining confidence ahead of Saturday. For now, even though the first practice sessions have been calm, the drivers haven’t particularly shone in terms of results, with two top 10 sessions for Trulli and only 16th and 13th places for Glock.
Jarno Trulli – 7th and 8th:
I completed two sessions without any issues while working on the usual program. That is, evaluating different tires and searching for various setups. The car seems to be performing well, but as usual, here at Silverstone, the day was windy. This makes it very difficult to set up a car and it’s not ideal when trying to evaluate different setups because the conditions change lap after lap. We just need to improve the pure performance. I’m still optimistic tonight.
Timo Glock – 16th and 13th:
« Overall, it’s a good start for us. We did quite a few laps discussing different setups. We didn’t have major issues, but of course, there are areas we need to work on before qualifying to get the most out of our package. The balance is not ideal at the moment, but we have the chance to improve it tomorrow morning. If you look at what happened in Turkey, we made a big step forward on Saturday morning. We have high hopes for Sunday’s race. »
Dieter Gass – Chief Race and Test Engineer:
« A good day for us. We have some new aerodynamic elements on the car, successfully tested. Everything seems good, we haven’t had any technical issues. We started this weekend smoothly thanks to our program. In terms of tires, they are the same compounds as in Turkey. We don’t seem to suffer from major problems with them. This is good news because from time to time this year, the tires have been a real challenge to deal with. We are looking to maximize our chances from this rather positive Friday for the rest of the weekend. »
