The FIA president, Max Mosley, states that it is highly likely that the British Grand Prix will take place at the Silverstone circuit next year.
Although Donington Park had secured a 17-year contract as a race host from 2010, the management clarified that the race will actually take place at Silverstone.
During an interview with the BBC, Mosley stated: « The possibility of not having any British Grand Prix next year is very low. That is my personal view and it’s not up to me to decide, but I think it is very likely that we will return to Silverstone. But that remains to be seen. »
Yesterday, and in agreement with Mosley, the director of the Silverstone circuit expressed doubts that Donington will be ready in time to host the race next year.
“Our problem focuses on the 2010 Grand Prix,” said Robert Brooks, president of the British Racing Drivers Club.
« We all know that the grand prizes do not fare well with year-long sabbaticals and 2010 is proving to be a major concern for us. »
« We do not think, at the stage we are at, that the 2010 Grand Prix will take place at Donington.
However, the boss of Donington Park, Simon Gillett, announced a few days ago that the race would indeed take place as planned.
