Force India waits before reconsidering its future in F1

Vijay Mallya, the owner of Force India, admitted that his team is undecided about its future in Formula 1 after the FOTA announced its intentions to create another championship.

Force India and Williams are the only two current teams to be unconditionally accepted into the 2010 Formula 1 championship.

However, the FOTA announced on Thursday evening that it will launch its own series with the eight teams since negotiations failed to reach an agreement with the FIA.

Mallya stated that he was sad no compromise had been reached and suggested his team review its options after this weekend’s events.

« We have been completely open and transparent with FOTA, » stated Mallya in a statement.

« We had legal and commercial obligations that required us to unconditionally enter the 2010 Formula 1 championship. I believe the transparency with which we conducted this operation was appreciated by FOTA, but they chose to suspend us, just like Williams. »

« We still hope for a compromise between FOTA and FIA, but at midnight on the night from Thursday to Friday, I was informed of FOTA’s decision. It used the words split and new championship. »

We find this sad and disappointing, particularly since the FIA has developed a brand image for this Formula 1 World Championship.

Force India has received confirmation of its entry into the 2010 FIA championship. Now, we are waiting to see how the situation develops over the weekend. Until there is a clear direction of events, we do not wish to make any further comments, concluded the Indian billionaire.
