New disappointment for the German BMW team this race weekend in England. The latest practice sessions did not look promising, and this was confirmed in qualifying even though both drivers made it to Q2, a meager consolation. Robert Kubica finished last this morning in the third practice session, still due to defective electronics. He will start 12th on the grid even though the top 10 was within reach.
Same thing for Nick Heidfeld, who is only 15th in the second qualifying session and will therefore start right in the middle of the pack.
Robert Kubica – 20th and 12th:
« To date, it’s been a very difficult weekend. Yesterday, I had technical problems in both sessions, and then again this morning. During the three free practice sessions, I may have completed ten laps without any issues, which is not enough to do the necessary work. No wonder the car’s setup wasn’t very good in qualifying. 12th place was the maximum I could achieve. »
Nick Heidfeld – 18th and 15th:
« Being 15th on the grid is obviously disappointing, but I must admit that I didn’t have high hopes before we arrived here. We had a new wing before the race, but other teams apparently have more updates. It will be difficult to collect points tomorrow. Additionally, with a dry track announced, we cannot count on a successful outcome tomorrow at Silverstone. However, for the upcoming races, we will have more new parts. We will continue to work and I will never give up. »
Mario Theissen – Director of BMW Motorsport:
« Clearly, we are not satisfied with this result. Our goal was to get into the top 10. This is not the case with Robert [Kubica] as he had technical problems in every practice session and, consequently, he was not able to have a good qualifying session. »
