Toyota had other objectives than the 7th and 9th places in the race for this British Grand Prix. After promising qualifications on Saturday, high hopes were placed on Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock. But the English weather got the better of the former, who still earned two new points. The problem for the Italian came from his setup which no longer suited the car.
His teammate, Glock, had a good end to the race but it wasn’t enough to secure the 8th place, which would mean a point, for the benefit of Kimi Räikkönen. Toyota is now under threat from Ferrari in the constructors’ championship.
Jarno Trulli – 7th:
« It was a very tough race for me. I had a difficult start because the car wasn’t going as fast as expected, and I lost a few positions. I struggled throughout the race, but it wasn’t easy. The car was sliding in many corners, perhaps because the setup I chose on Saturday no longer applied in the race. »
« I waited for the track temperature to become a bit warmer. I had a bit of trouble with my setup, particularly on the long runs. Our strategy was good but we expected more from this race, I am determined to do my best in Germany. »
Timo Glock – 9th:
« It’s a shame to miss out on points, especially since I was very fast in traffic. I was able to catch up to Kimi [Räikkönen] very easily. The problem was that in the first corner, I lost a few places, which left me in traffic and compromised my race. However, I didn’t give up and I was fighting with [Giancarlo] Fisichella in the middle of the pack, always aiming for points. »
« With the soft tires at the end of the race, I felt very fast, I caught up to Räikkönen but had no chance to overtake him. I tried in the last corner on the last lap, but it didn’t work. Now, I’m looking forward to the next Grand Prix, which is a home race for me and the team. I hope the weather will be a bit warmer, it will suit our car better. »
John Howett – President:
« We expected a better result in the race. The qualifiers were very promising, though. We were fighting for a podium, but Jarno [Trulli] lost positions at the start, and Timo [Glock] got caught in a sandwich in the first corner. Two points are much less than what we envisioned after the qualifiers. However, this encourages us to further develop our car and come back stronger for one of our home Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. »
