With Max Mosley not running for re-election as the head of the International Automobile Federation in October, attention now turns to his successor. Who could be in charge of F1 by being the president of the FIA?
Mosley, aged 69, has finally agreed to a peace settlement with the FOTA. The Briton stated on Wednesday: « Finding someone more to their liking remains to be seen. »
The most obvious candidate is the president of the Monaco Automobile Club, Michel Boeri, who, as President of the FIA Senate, would immediately succeed Mosley in the thorny issue of the 2010 regulations via the F1 teams.
However, Mosley declared to the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport: « I can’t imagine that Boeri would be interested in the position. He is too old. »
In the German press, the FIA Vice President, Hermann Tomczyk, is also reportedly in the running for the throne. For many months, Jean Todt has been described as a very serious candidate.
« I do not rule it out, » said Mosley, on the possibility of a French presidency.
Among the many F1 teams, Todt has an asset, that of being popular, but Mosley pointed out that the teams do not have a say in this appointment.
« If there are multiple candidates, then I will make a recommendation, » revealed Max Mosley.
