Brawn GP team principal, Ross Brawn announced on Thursday that he will be the director of the charity project ‘Motor SKIDZ’, which offers disadvantaged English youths the opportunity to access professional skills and automotive engineering courses.
Currently based in leased premises, the charity aims to raise approximately 1 million pounds (1.774 million Euros) to purchase a property for the ‘Wycombe Motor’ project. A new site where the organization will be able to offer better services to young people with improved facilities.
« I am delighted to become the patron of the ‘SKIDZ Motor’ charity project and to lend my support to this campaign to raise funds for the purchase of new premises as part of the ‘Wycombe Motor’ project, » stated Brawn.
« Having started my career in Formula 1 as a mere machinist and mechanic for the Williams team in the 1970s, I am a strong supporter of all the opportunities that allow young people to learn skills in the automotive field. It is a chance to get involved and develop a passion for motorsport. »
Practice is essential to be the best in this field, and this is where SKIDZ makes a difference because the future prospects for the young people involved are fabulous. In addition to my work with students in F1 schools, I hope my participation in SKIDZ makes a real difference. The enthusiasm and commitment I have seen for the ‘Wycombe Motor’ project fills me with optimism for the future of science and engineering in this country.
