Ferrari shifts its focus to 2010

Kimi Räikkönen hinted that his team will soon focus on the 2010 car. The F60 is too limited to play any role between the Brawn and the Red Bull.

Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen have achieved only one podium so far this year (in Monaco with the Finnish driver’s 3rd place), so the team has little chance of being involved in the title battle.

That is why the president of Scuderia Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo, suggested that his team will soon focus its efforts on the 2010 single-seater.

« I am convinced that we can improve our performance in the upcoming races, but having said that, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to really change the car during the season without tests, » said di Montezemolo on Ferrari’s official website.

« When you have a car at the beginning of the season with certain features, it is difficult to revolutionize it mid-season between two races. »

But I am very confident that we can improve our performance in the upcoming races. We will fully focus on next year’s car, without KERS, with clear rules, following the agreement we were very happy to reach with the FIA this week.

« Unfortunately, we started the season with unclear rules. It is difficult to give a correct interpretation, and the proof is that the last three teams to win an F1 world championship, Ferrari, McLaren, and Renault, made the same interpretation of these rules. However, these teams are not as competitive as before, » the Italian continued.

« It is one of the reasons for our fight, to have more stable, clearer, and more transparent rules. We designed a car with the KERS, which means more weight on the car while many other teams did not have the system. »

« So, if the federation wants to introduce KERS, it must be the same for everyone. Now, I think it’s time to return to clear rules, » concluded Luca di Montezemolo.
