Max Mosley wants to be re-elected as the head of the FIA, according to Gracia

Marco Gracia, the director of the Spanish Federation of Motor Sports, expressed caution about the future president of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile). According to him, Max Mosley might run in October to be re-elected as the head of the organization.

After the agreement was reached between Ecclestone (FOM), Mosley (FIA), and di Montezemolo (FOTA – Team Association) regarding the 2010 Formula rules, the situation worsened again last week following awkward statements from FOTA.

According to Max Mosley, the FOTA and more specifically Luca di Montezemolo (Director of FIAT and Ferrari) allegedly made some negative remarks about him in the press. Mosley is expecting a letter of apology, or even a press conference to make amends; otherwise, he threatens to continue as FIA president until things are clear and resolved.

« I am not a fan of Max Mosley, nor of the lack of respect. And what Luca di Montezemolo did is a lack of respect, not only towards Mosley but also towards the FIA and the World Council. » Comments Carlos Gracia on a Spanish radio.

« It wouldn’t surprise me if Max Mosley decided to get re-elected now. Di Montezemolo has managed to reignite the war. » The main person concerned reacted to these remarks. Clarifying that you « don’t dance on the grave of someone who isn’t dead yet. »

Gracia also showed a desire to take over the FIA presidency as early as October, replacing the Briton: « I would not rule out the possibility of being elected. But I would not want to go against Max [Mosley]. I think he is greatly supported within the World Council, and I would think twice before running against him. I don’t want the sport and the Spanish reputation to suffer. I am here primarily to defend the Spanish Federation and Spanish motorsport! »

The Concorde Agreement, the second of its name, which will establish relationships and hierarchies in Formula 1, is in the construction phase; behind the scenes. Indeed, no meeting of the FOTA members with the FIA is scheduled anytime soon.

In an interview, Mosley expressed his willingness to leave the presidency of the FIA in October to someone else if no one feels that he was pushed out by the FOTA. The Englishman does not want to come out with a bad reputation and prefers to finish his job properly rather than leaving it unfinished.

Mosley considers himself too old to preside over the FIA and to lead an organization where most of those involved might view him as a grandfather, according to his statements, but he still counts on apologies from FOTA. The war continues behind the scenes even though an official peace has been signed.
