Like BMW, the Toyota team finds itself at home since its factory is located in Cologne, Germany. As with BMW, one of its drivers is of German nationality. The objective is therefore simple: to entertain, amuse, and satisfy the many fans.
It’s Timo Glock who will have the most fans, but unlike Jarno Trulli, it will be his first time driving a Formula 1 car on the Nurburgring track. The Italian knows this track for having performed well, as in 1999. Something he hopes to repeat ten years later.
Jarno Trulli – Racing Driver
« The Nurburgring is a very famous circuit in motor racing. It’s fantastic to go there. The new track is a bit different, but in its own way, it’s still a real challenge. I know it well for having good memories, especially in 1999 when I finished on the podium for the first time in Formula 1. I’m always optimistic and it would be great to fight for a podium, exactly 10 years later. »
« We showed during the Silverstone qualifications that we are competitive, even though the race turned out to be frustrating after the start, so I am hopeful for this weekend. It’s an important race for the team as the factory is an hour away. Thus, our motivation is boosted this weekend. I know we will have a lot of support, and I hope I can achieve the result we are all expecting.
Timo Glock – Racing driver:
« This is my track, and it will be the first time I drive on it with a Formula 1 car. Obviously, this Nurburgring has nothing to do with the old one. It’s simply an incredible track. I drove a Toyota Auris on it. It’s so enjoyable but completely different from a modern Formula 1 circuit. »
« I love the modernity of the Nurburgring. I really got familiar with racing in Germany. In fact, the first Formula 1 race I attended was at the Nurburgring in 2000 when I was competing in a charity race. It will be a special feeling for me this weekend. »
« It is surprising to think that we are already halfway through the season. It goes by so fast. I have had good races so far. This weekend is a new opportunity to do even better. »
Pascal Vasselon – General Director of Chassis:
« The Nurburgring is an atypical circuit for a Formula 1 car, requiring a medium level of aerodynamic efficiency with medium-gravity tires to prevent damage to the brakes, suspension, or engine. The main concern is the weather. It needs to be warm for the tires, but the track is near the mountains. »
« We haven’t raced at the Nurburgring since 2007, but the track hasn’t changed since then. If our database is still valid, we will be able to rely on it even if we will have to make adjustments to account for the aerodynamics and slick tires. »
