Geoff Willis leaves the Red Bull Racing team!

Yesterday, Thursday, through its spokesperson, the Red Bull Racing team confirmed to the press the departure of its Technical Director – Geoff Willis.

According to the spokesperson, Willis reportedly left the energy drink team due to work that was becoming increasingly superfluous and uninteresting to do.

Geoff Willis was part of the Red Bull leadership team in the design of the RB5, alongside Adrian Newey. A car that is currently winning all the votes and could perhaps allow Red Bull to win one of the F1 titles in 2009.

Willis was present at Silverstone three weeks ago for the British Grand Prix and negotiated his departure last week. He is not expected to be replaced immediately.

The Englishman joined Red Bull in mid-2007, once again forming a duo with Newey. The two engineers initially started working together for the Leyton House team, and then for Williams in the 1990s.

Newey then left the Groove factory for the McLaren team in 1997, leaving Willis to design the Williams cars until 2001 alongside Gavin Fisher.

In 2001, Willis moved to join BAR-Honda. He followed the Japanese engine manufacturer until 2006 when he decided to take a break from his career. He returned a year later, welcomed by Red Bull.

His story in Formula 1 is not over, however, as with the appearance of three new teams in 2010, Geoff Willis could very well make a (big) place for himself with Campos GP, Manor GP, or even US F1.
