On Wednesday, the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) decided to leave a technical meeting with the FIA. The topic of discussion was the future rules, which further fuels doubts about a real peace agreement.
The FIA held one of its Technical Working Group meetings at the Nurburgring to finalize the rules since the agreement on the budget cap is still pending.
The meeting included representatives from all current teams, as well as new entrants with US F1, Manor GP, and Campos Grand Prix.
Some progress has been made, such as on the budget capping rules presented on April 29th.
However, the teams and the FIA did not reach an agreement on the weight limit of the single-seaters for 2010. There is also no sign of an agreement that would strengthen cost reduction.
According to a statement from the FIA: « Following the World Council’s decision on June 24 to revert to the initial version of the 2010 technical regulations, the FIA met with the teams that entered the 2010 championship on Wednesday. »
« All changes have now been approved subject only to the minimum weight of 620 kg and the signing of an agreement between all the teams competing in 2010 aimed at reducing costs to the levels of the early 1990s within two years, as promised by FOTA on June 24. »
The eight FOTA teams were invited to attend the meeting to discuss their new proposals for 2010. Unfortunately, no discussion was possible because the FOTA walked out of the meeting.
