Saturday: The cold shower for Team Williams

After a good practice session in the morning, Williams had hopes for a strong qualifying session, continuing the momentum… But it turned out differently as the unpredictable weather thwarted the team’s efforts. Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima did not get past Q2.

In Q2, they practically got the worst positions with 13th and 15th places. The Japanese is ahead of the German, a rare occurrence worth noting. Like many, it was the showers that caused this underperformance. A bit like in the lottery, Williams didn’t bet on the right tires at the right time.

Kazuki Nakajima – 9th and 13th:

« It was a difficult qualifying session today as we had to race in tough conditions. To be the best, you need perfect timing and make the right decision regarding tires. Today, we weren’t missing much. Overall, the top 10 order is a bit different, maybe it will offer some opportunities for the race. Now, we will simply try to find the best strategy and see what we can do. »

Nico Rosberg – 8th and 15th:

« As long as the track was dry, everything went well. The qualifications were satisfactory and we made good progress. If the weather had stayed dry, I think we could have done much better. However, the changing conditions in Q2 did not favor us. We will need to analyze why this happened. It seems it will be the same tomorrow, and I hope luck will be on our side. »

« It’s a disappointing result in qualifying after the good practice sessions this morning. We didn’t use the right tires at the right time because the conditions kept changing. But it’s not an excuse because, for everyone, the conditions were the same. We will maximize our chances for tomorrow by employing the best strategy to score points, as the car is certainly capable of doing so here at the Nurburgring.
